On February 20, 2006,
Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York today endorsed Eliot Spitzer for Governor. Spitzer has a proven record of commitment to the women and families of New York State. As Attorney General, he created the Reproductive Rights Unit within the Department of Law. He reinvigorated the Department and used the power of his office to protect civil and reproductive rights.
“Eliot Spitzer has earned Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York’s first-ever endorsement for Governor,” said Patricia McGeown, president of Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York (PPANY). “This election is vital to the health of women and families. Eliot Spitzer’s experience and integrity complement his strong record on reproductive health care issues, making him the right person to lead New York State at this critical time.”
“I am honored to be endorsed by Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York State. By providing important health services to women across the state, Planned Parenthoods allow New Yorkers to take advantage of resources, information and care that are essential to preserving our most fundamental rights,” said Spitzer.
“I look forward to an active partnership with an organization characterized by values I share: hard work, zealous advocacy and a tireless commitment to women’s health. I thank PPANY’s members and leaders for their support.”
Spitzer has taken strong stands on issues important to women and families in New York. These include enhancing access to reproductive health services, improving the availability of emergency contraception and providing young people with comprehensive sex education.
"Rarely do we see a candidate with the credentials and commitment of Eliot Spitzer. He has a clear and consistent stance that reproductive rights must be maintained through legal protections and legislative advocacy," said JoAnn M. Smith, a member of Planned Parenthood Advocates Board of Directors. “Eliot Spitzer has earned our trust and we are proud to endorse his candidacy for Governor of New York State.”

Buffalo, NY (August 12, 2006)-Citing his record of commitment to family planning, Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York today endorsed David A. Paterson for Lieutenant Governor.
"Every New Yorker deserves access to family planning and basic preventive health care. David Paterson understands this," said Laura Meyers, chair of the Western New York Chapter of Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York. "We are a voice for some of the poorest families in the state. Helping these families plan their futures and raise healthy children is truly a noble cause. As Lieutenant Governor, David Paterson will be an ally in our fight for a healthy New York."
"New York's Planned Parenthoods are a key component of New York's health care system," said Paterson. "I am proud to be supported by this devoted organization. Working together, we can and will make a difference in the lives of women and families across the state."
Paterson has worked to enhance access to reproductive health services, improve the availability of emergency contraception and provide young people with comprehensive sex education.
"David Paterson is an innovative leader who is truly committed to women's health and rights," said JoAnn Smith of Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York (PPANY). "He is never afraid to stand up for what for what he believes in. He believes that New Yorkers deserve the best - and the safest - possible health services. He believes that young people deserve honest, accurate sex education. He believes that personal reproductive health care decisions should be made by women and not politicians. Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York is proud to support David Paterson for Lieutenant Governor."
Planned Parenthood Advocates of New York endorses a select group of candidates who explicitly affirm support
for every woman's right to decide whether and when to have a child. This affirmation includes unequivocal
support for access to the full range of reproductive and sexual health care services that may be needed
throughout a woman's lifetime to insure the health and well being of women and their families. PPANY's
endorsements are non-partisan. If you would like to request PPANY's endorsement or have questions about
our endorsement policy, please contact us at (518) 426-8408 x200 or e-mail to: info@ppany.org
